A Fall Engagement Session in German Village

Emma and Joshua’s engagement session on October 5th, 2026 was everything I hoped an early-October evening in Columbus would be — warm golden light, the first hint of color in the trees, and two people who couldn’t stop laughing at each other.

Emma and Joshua recently moved to Columbus, so I wanted their engagement photos to feel like a love letter to their new city. When I was choosing a location, German Village was the easy answer. It has the perfect fall vibes: brick streets, 19th-century brick homes with black shutters and gas lanterns, window boxes spilling over, and tree-lined corners that glow at golden hour. It’s one of my favorite places in Columbus for engagement photos, and it never feels like a backdrop — it feels like a place you’d actually want to live a love story.

Frank Fetch Park and the Brick Streets

We started near Frank Fetch Park, a tiny, tucked-away garden park that feels more like an English courtyard than a city block. The light filtering through the trees there is soft and warm, and it’s where we got some of my favorite close, quiet portraits — foreheads together, Emma’s ring catching the sun, Joshua making her laugh between frames.

From there we wandered the brick sidewalks and cobbled streets. Emma’s red boots against the old brick were a dream, and the iron fences, boxwood hedges, and stone steps gave us the perfect spots to slow down and just sit together.

The Book Loft

No German Village engagement session is complete without The Book Loft. The neon signs and storefront windows of this beloved Columbus bookstore make for a cinematic, editorial frame — so I had Emma and Joshua walk hand-in-hand past the shop while I dragged the shutter for a little motion and movement. It’s one of those images that feels like a still from a film.

Golden Hour Near Schiller Park

We finished near Schiller Park as the sun dropped behind the rooftops. With the evening light coming in low, we leaned into slow, candid moments: Joshua’s jacket around Emma’s shoulders, a kiss on the cheek, the kind of laughter you can’t pose. That’s what I love most about documentary-style engagement photography — the best images happen in the in-between.
